On Sept. 29, 2013 the series finale of Breaking Bad aired. Audiences around the world watched as the main
characters, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, tied up their loose ends in what
ended up being the show’s most popular night with 10.3 million viewers. Fans
applauded the grand finale and will surely miss their beloved show, but it wasn’t
the last we’ll see of all the characters.
Saul Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk) was Walter and Jesse’s
lawyer with friends in low places. News broke mid September that there was to
be a spinoff series with the working title Better
Call Saul. This new show would be an hour-long drama with Saul as the main
character in a prequel to Breaking Bad.
There is no doubt that fans would want to see how Saul
became the crafty lawyer to Heisenberg, but after Breaking Bad’s series finale, many people were left wondering what happened
to their favorite crooked lawyer. Luckily for fans, more information was
released this week about the upcoming drama. Instead of being strictly a prequel,
Odenkirk said Breaking Bad creator
Vince Gilligan has also brought up the possibility of the show being a sequel
or a combination of the two, which can lead to endless possibilities.
Whether the show becomes a prequel, sequel, or hybrid,
Odenkirk wants it to be an entirely different experience, "I told Peter
and Vince ... 'Look, man, let us make this fresh for everyone.' So that right
away, in the first five minutes, every viewer goes, 'Oh, this isn't 'Breaking
Bad,' this is its own thing.' And I think they feel the exact same way."
Writers are expected to begin their work at the end of this
month and Better Call Saul is
expected to air sometime in 2014.
