‘Harry Potter’ books get a new look

Harry Potter stole the hearts of many readers in 1997, when the first book was released. Just four years after that, movie lovers got a chance to be part of the magic too. What could possibly be next for this billion-dollar franchise? The answer is finally here; illustrated books!

On December 6th, 2013 Bloomsbury Publishing announced all seven of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books were getting a makeover. They’re all being published with full-color illustrations.

Jim Kay, who won the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2012, will be executing the illustrations for each book, including their covers. Kay, who is a fan of the franchise, went on to say, "From my point of view it is, without doubt, the commission of a lifetime…”.

The first in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is set to release in September 2015. The subsequent books are intended for release annually after that, allowing readers to grow up with the characters all over again.

Netflix saves ‘The Killing’ from being killed

Bringing shows back from the dead may be Netflix’s new thing. The first time it occurred was earlier this year when the company aired a fourth season of Arrested Development, which was originally canceled in 2006. Now they have agreed to air the final season of The Killing, a gritty, Seattle-set, cop drama that that originated on AMC.

The Killing is no stranger to revivals though, AMC first canceled the show in 2012 after just two seasons. Following this cancelation a deal was struck between Netflix and Fox Television Studios that resulted in AMC bringing back the show for another season. Due to less than desirable ratings AMC canceled the show again in 2013 after the third season aired.

Despite its unsatisfactory ratings, Netflix wasted no time picking up the show. On Nov. 15, only two months after the second cancelation, they announced The Killing’s fourth and final season would stream solely on Netflix with six episodes.

Both Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, the stars of the show, will be back in action as well as the regular showrunner Veena Sud. The team writing the final season is expected to begin work soon.

Netflix is currently streaming all three seasons of The Killing; click the picture to take you there.

The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music
The link above we will bring you too their Facebook page.
The Sound of Music is being re-filmed with Carrie Underwood as the main actress and it will be filmed live. Tonight at 7 central on NBC.  The first sound of music was released in 1965 (48 years ago) now having a remake and live it has a lot of people excited. There has been a lot of talk and interest for this movie even with this being the first movie being filmed live. Even though this show was more popular back 48 years ago a lot of young people are pulled in, I think a lot of that has to come with Carrie Underwood being the main actresses. She is really the only well known person in the TV series. Which is rather shocking you would think they would have more well known actors and actresses in the TV series.  Even with the new people being in it there is a lot of wonder about it. It will be the same movie and we will have to wait and see if having new people is going to make it better or worse.

Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Catching Fire came out on November 22nd. Catching Fire is the second out of three of the book in the Hunger Games series. The opening weekend it made $158,074,286 which is actually less than the first Hunger Games.

Many of my friends said it was amazing because they followed with the book very well. The costumes were very well done. The acting got better which is just like any other movie. I find that it is hard to do especially with so much of the movie being action. I would say the content was the only thing that people found wrong with it. There was a friend of mine that said it was horrible and I was really surprised because I really liked the movie. After asking her way I understand now and many people actually might agree with her. She said that she didn't like the movie because of the content and how having children kill children is always bad. But, she also said as a movie it was very well done. I agree with her that yes the content is pretty bad but it is fiction and has a great sense of suspense and adventure behind it.  So, with all that said I encourage you to watch it and make your own opinion. Write comments of what you think about the movie.

Will Ferrell in Bismarck!

Will Ferrell was in Bismarck on Saturday, November 30th as his news anchor character, Ron Burgundy! He had the opportunity to be a real anchorman on KXMB kept all the comedy.
The news went on like it normally did and Ferrell stayed in character the entire time. He constantly made faces when reading the teleprompter and went into a couple of his co-anchor's screen shots, making it hard for Amber Schatz, his co-anchor, to not laugh.

He did this to promote his new movie coming out in 2014, called Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. He said in an interview after, "Amber, my co-anchor, she kept touching me underneath the table — which I found very unprofessional and delightful at the same time."

So it looks like Bismarck has had it's Christmas surprise! It's nice to have a little comic relief!

Update on 'Breaking Bad' spinoff series 'Better Call Saul'

On Sept. 29, 2013 the series finale of Breaking Bad aired. Audiences around the world watched as the main characters, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, tied up their loose ends in what ended up being the show’s most popular night with 10.3 million viewers. Fans applauded the grand finale and will surely miss their beloved show, but it wasn’t the last we’ll see of all the characters.

Saul Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk) was Walter and Jesse’s lawyer with friends in low places. News broke mid September that there was to be a spinoff series with the working title Better Call Saul. This new show would be an hour-long drama with Saul as the main character in a prequel to Breaking Bad.

There is no doubt that fans would want to see how Saul became the crafty lawyer to Heisenberg, but after Breaking Bad’s series finale, many people were left wondering what happened to their favorite crooked lawyer. Luckily for fans, more information was released this week about the upcoming drama. Instead of being strictly a prequel, Odenkirk said Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has also brought up the possibility of the show being a sequel or a combination of the two, which can lead to endless possibilities.

Whether the show becomes a prequel, sequel, or hybrid, Odenkirk wants it to be an entirely different experience, "I told Peter and Vince ... 'Look, man, let us make this fresh for everyone.' So that right away, in the first five minutes, every viewer goes, 'Oh, this isn't 'Breaking Bad,' this is its own thing.' And I think they feel the exact same way."

Writers are expected to begin their work at the end of this month and Better Call Saul is expected to air sometime in 2014.

Five Singers Brought Together as One Explosive Group

X Factor has done it again! The reality talent show brought together a band in 2010 called One Direction, a band consisting of five male singers who continue to rise in fame. Now, X Factor has done it again in late 2012 by creating a band called Fifth Harmony.

Five solo singers named Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Dinah-Jane Hanson, Lauren Jauragui, and Normani Hamilton, didn't make it through the competition by themselves so they were assigned to be a group. After more competition, a couple group name changes and lots of judging, they came to call themselves Fifth Harmony. Between the ages of 16 and 20, they're each from different states but finished the competition in 3rd place as a brand new Pop/R&B band.

This year they released their single "Miss Movin' On." having more that 14 million views on YouTube to the day and continue to rise in fame similarly like One Direction. They will be releasing their first alum called "Better Together" in 2014 and tour soon after.

Gravity in the Movie Theatre

Gravity has viewers strapped to their seats. No really! Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, was just released on October 4th, worldwide. With a 97% rating on rottentomatos.com and $55.8 million in box office, the movie made it to number one in the world the weekend it was released.

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star in this space thriller, as an engineer and an astronaut, stranded out in space after their space shuttle is destroyed. They only have each other and a little air in their suits.

The first fifteen minnutes of the movie are in stunning CGI, making it eye grabbing and realistic. "Gravity, a weightless ballet and a cold-sweat nightmare, intimates mystery and profundity, with that mixture of beauty and terror that the Romantics called the sublime." Says top critic, Liam Lacey

Not just for the space lovers but for anyone who likes a good thriller and sory line. Let's see how long it will stay at number one! Check out the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KJHRF6RlTQ

New Yorkers get a taste of the supernatural with 'Carrie' promo

A few New Yorkers experienced an elaborate promotional tactic for the new movie Carrie earlier this month. A café full of actors and special effects were used to convince unsuspecting customers that people with telekinesis (the power to move objects with your mind) really exist.

For these customers the day started out normal as they recited their usual orders of coffee and pastries to the barista. Then a man accidentally spilled a woman’s coffee all over her lap and computer. Accidents like this happen more often than not, but what the customers didn’t know was that half of the people in the café were paid actors and their scene had just begun.

The woman yelled at the man, stood up, and thrust her hand towards him even though he was more than a few feet away. It didn’t matter though; in sync with her arm he flew against the wall where it appeared she was holding him without even touching him. The routine coffee goers realized this wasn’t so routine and watched in amusement, not knowing what else to think.

The woman then pulled back her arm, releasing the man from the wall and stared at her hands in disbelief. It became very apparent that she was concerned with what just happened and when she finally put her hands down the tables and chairs move away from her, again without being physically touched. At this point in time customers were no longer amused, but in a state of horror.

The final piece to this gag was the woman letting out a scream that sent books literally flying off shelves and customers running out the door in fear.

Coffee shop promo:

Clearly billboards and bus stop posters were too mundane for this much-awaited reboot of Stephen King’s bestseller. The line used in both the official trailer and the promotional video is “There are other people out there like me who can do what I can do”, spoken by Carrie, but no one can do it quite like a social outcast scorned.

Carrie (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) and her overbearing, ultra-religious mother (played by Julianne Moore) hit theaters Friday, Oct. 18 in this brilliant sci-fi horror.

Mumford and sons done touring forever??

Mumford and Son’s had their last concert in Bonner Springs, KA. They decided to take a break from touring and be with their families for a while. They are starting to get older which means them being up on the stage for long periods of time is getting rougher. Their fans might be waiting for a long time to see them with the band not knowing when they would be back.

One of the major effects of them taking a break is them being on tour since 2009. They have been a very busy group and think that it is time to take a break even though they love what they do they want to start being with their families. They love their music and they will probably keep playing.

The fans not know when they will hear a new song or if they will see them in concert ever again can't wait to see what the band comes up with decided on when they come back. For the band to be in tour for four years they loved it enough that they will come back for the love of their music.

My friends went to the concert and here is a video of one of there songs.

Boy Asks Santa to Help Stop His Sister From Being Bullied

On September 20, Good Morning America interviewed eight year old twins Ryan and Amber Suffern after word spread about a letter that Ryan wrote to Santa Clause. The twins' mother, Karen Suffern, read the letter and posted it to Facebook where family and friends read and shared it until GMA found out about this story and asked to interview the family.
In the interview, Karen tells how Amber is twice the size of her brother and has a few different mental disorders, including ADD and mood disorders. Then Amber told GMA that fellow classmates call her 'fat,' 'ugly,' and 'hideous,' though she does not know why. When Ryan was asked about his sister being bullied, he said that he wished that it was him that other kids bullied and not his sister. He was also asked to read his letter for GMA's listeners. Here is what he wrote to Santa Clause:

After the twins and their mom were interviewed, the family was led into a gymnasium where Big Time Rush band members came out to meet Amber and wish her an happy early birthday. Amber was in shock as the band sat with her on a small stage and sang to her. The band then asked the Suffern family to be VIPs at their next concert.

One Award Winning Book, Three Stunning Movies

It’s not the first time the world has seen a series of books turned into a series of movies. But a series of movies from one book? Some of the more dedicated fans of The Hobbit are content with the idea of having three movies, as more substance can be put from the book into the movies. But the general audience is asking why. Why take a 310 page book and expand it into a movie-making process of three years? The director of The Lord of the Rings and now The Hobbit, Peter Jackson, has a few answers to that, so frequently asked, question. “The richness of the story of The Hobbit, as well as some of the related material in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, allows us to tell the full story of Bilbo Baggins and the part he played in the sometimes dangerous, but at all times exciting, history of Middle-Earth.” Jackson says.
The appendices are just one of the reasons he wants to make three movies though. Another is that the producers of the movies have only had the rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.  Because of the little rights they have compared to everything else J.R.R. Tolkein ever wrote, they’re going to make the most of it.
“[The appendices] talk about the White Council and the Necromancer and they refer to the attack on Dol Guldur and various plotting limits, and it’s that type of plot that we are developing into The Hobbit.” Jackson elaborates, “We know how much the history of Bilbo Baggins, the Wizard Gandalf, the Dwarves of Erebor, the rise of the Necromancer, and the Battle of Dol Guldur will remain untold if we do not take this chance.”
Jackson states, “It’s written in a very breathless pace so that pretty major events in the story are covered in only two to three pages by Tolkien.”
Although The Hobbit is the main source of material for these movies, J.R.R. Tolkien, the author, wrote nearly 130 pages of Hobbit backstory called The Appendices, which Jackson will be using too. This backstory will provide a deeper sense of the world they’re in and how exactly things came to be. Tolkien’s book The Silmarillion, about the history of Middle-earth, will not be one of the materials used because the film rights do not belong to Warner Bros.. There have also been rumors that Jackson has access to an unpublished version of Tolkien’s The Hobbit that he may be taking ideas from, but that is unconfirmed.
More often than not, directors and producers have to cut out certain parts of books to make the movie short enough for people to actually sit through, it will be different to see otherwise in The Hobbit.

A large and important part of the three movies, is the budget. The director of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has a production budget of $250,000,000. The Budget for the second and third movie is now $315,000,000 because of the gross profit of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was $1,045,778,374. The gross profit being as high as it was will help the other movies in their production without having to worry about the money costs as much.
As stated before, the producers decided to make it into three movies so they could fit all of the information from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in the movies. The budget is helping them because the producers gave them higher budgets for the next two movies. The budget of the last two movies will help the expense of costumes and the technology.
Many of the costumes were reused in the second and third movie so they didn’t have to spend the money on them out of the second and third budget. With using the costumes more than once, they still felt that raising the budget would be good because they had many other things they needed like technology or adding actors and actresses. The costumes and the equipment is very important in making a movie so with the budget being higher, they have money to spend on more important things for the last two movies.
The readers of Lord of the Rings will enjoy it too since a lot of material from The Appendices of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit  will be coming out. Because of when they were filming and how they were filming with so much detail, they had to make more than one movie. So, with that said, they now have $630,000,000 for two movies which will help dramatically with what they can do and what they can do better.
“But just because J.R.R. Tolkien wrote one novel, and Peter Jackson is giving us three films, doesn’t mean that the decision was solely about money.” says Leslie Gornstein of Empire Magazine.
The largest part of the budget and another reason Jackson made three movies, is the technology used to film it all. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey  will be the first movie in the world made at a frame rate of 48 frames per second, faster than the 24 frames per second which is the industry standard. These cameras are, also, never before used, RED EPIC cameras. These cameras are able to capture all the visual storyline, characters and scenery in nothing less than 3D.
“I'm a technophobe.” Says Jackson, “I don't know how the technology works. But I know what the technology is capable of, which is the important thing.”
The human eyes can capture well over 200 FPS so 48 is that much closer to how we see images every day. Filmmakers have held back when it came to using cameras with faster frame speed because of how the audience reacted to seeing a movie in such high quality was unpredictable. While the general audience would get use to seeing it after ten or fifteen minutes, there are some who claim the 48FPS gives them a headache when it’s in 3D.
Another reason these cameras have never been used before is because they are expensive. They cost about $19,077.60 each. The Hobbit used 48 of these cameras! That comes to about $915,724.80 for the cameras alone. That's not the only cost the cameras bring either. Production of the film had to make their own rigs for the cameras to shoot from. There had to be seventeen rigs, ranging from crane supported cameras, to smaller, hand held ones. And because the cameras have a tendency to desaturate images, designers had to over-color costumes, makeup, even props and scenery, adding the extra cost of makeup and paint.
“I have always liked the look of RED footage, though.” Peter Jackson, says, “I'm not a scientist or a mathematician, but the image RED produces has a much more filmic feel than most of the other digital formats.”
For complete info on the technology used for the filming of The Hobbit, check out the link! http://www.thehobbitblog.com/production-video-4/
The Hobbit
There are many things that had to happen for The Hobbit to be made into three movies like the budget, costumes, cast, and the technology. These things are finally done and the movies are waiting to be shown to their eager audience. To everything that has happened and will happen in The Hobbit movies, Jackson says this is “all still part of the Tolkien myth.”

Popular movie rating site, Rotten Tomatoes, adds TV section

Rotten Tomatoes, owned by Warner Bros., is a website where users can look up films from all over the globe and find various information on a movie like what it is about and who is starring in it. The most memorable thing about this site, however, is the ratings. Each movie has two ratings, one given by critics (called the “Tomatometer”) and one given by audience members. Today, Sept. 17, Rotten Tomatoes launched a new division called “TV Zone” for television shows.

Since TV shows have an entirely different distribution than movies, the set up of “TV Zone” will be slightly different from the normal Rotten Tomatoes people are used to. Instead of looking up one solitary item such as Game of Thrones and finding one rating for the entire show, there will be links to different seasons and each season will have a rating of its own. Another thing that is different about the rating system is that at this moment audience ratings are not being shown, only critic’s ratings on the Tomatometer.

Rotten Tomatoes’ information and ratings on movies date quite a few decades back, but this will not be the case for “TV Zone”. It will have cast information, episode recaps, and ratings for shows that have aired on primetime television only in the last four years, excluding reality TV. These can be seen under, but not limited to, its three main sections: “Tonight’s Premieres”, “New Episodes”, and “Certified Fresh TV”.

This launch of “TV Zone” is beta, which means there will be many changes to come based on the feedback from users and adjustments to any glitches that may occur, but so far, so good.

Check out Rotten Tomatoes and “TV Zone” by clicking the picture below.

Hugh Jackman Hangs Up the Claws as Wolverine?

Hugh Jackman may not appear as Wolverine after X-Men: Days of Future Past. The actor made famous by his role as Wolverine is not getting any younger, so the time is coming when a younger Wolverine will have to be picked. According to the EW, producer Hutch Parker is reluctant to let Hugh Jackman go. Hugh Jackman, on the other hand, says he was not sure about doing the first independent film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and is fine with letting some one else take over his role. Though he does say that he still loves being the Wolverine and he would do another film as long as there is a very compelling reason. Here is a link the EW for more reading on Hugh Jackman.

Embarrassment on a whole new level, if the daughter doesn't dress right why should the parents?

After daughter comes down in short shorts and refuses to change. The dad takes a pair of old jeans and cuts them up to be short shorts. He wears them for most of the night and they leave to go to supper. Since, the Daughter does not change either does the dad and as they got there the daughter refuses to get out of the car. The dad goes into the restaurant with his short shorts and his Best Dad Ever t-shirt on.

Do you think this made a lesson?
Do you think the dad had a right to do this?
Or did the parents going too far to teach their children what is right and what is wrong?
Do you think that is way too embarrassing and not good at all?
For kids this is quiet embarrassing but for parents this would be rather fun to do to their kids.

Mark your calendars for 'Jurassic Park' four

Universal Pictures, owned by Comcast’s NBCUniversal, announced Tuesday, Sept. 10, that the fourth installment of the Jurassic Park series will be released Friday, June 12, 2015. The movie will be titled Jurassic World and will be filmed in 3-D.

This soon to be summer blockbuster will be produced by Steven Spielberg, director of the first two films: Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Universal Pictures also announced the director of this film will be Colin Trevorrow, director of Safety Not Guaranteed. No cast members or plot have been made public yet, although there are some speculations as to what may happen.

The reason Jurassic Park was such a big hit is because, at the time, not many movies had extravagant special effects. The sequels gradually decreased in ratings because there was nothing new and exciting for viewers to awe at. With movies like Avatar (2009) and Inception (2010), the bar has been dramatically raised for special effects in the movie industry. In order for Jurassic World to be a hit and not a miss, it needs to utilize multiple technologies available for movies today, not just 3-D, and it needs to have a plot that’s worth seeing more than once.

It has been 12 years since the release of Jurassic Park III (2001) and by the time Jurassic World is set to release, it will have been 22 years since the original movie Jurassic Park. One can only hope that with this amount of time in between films, they will do it up right.
